The sisal fiber grown in Brazil, also known as Agave, is an A. Sisalana specie and it is eminently a tropical plant. In this way, there are few commercial plantations outside this environment.

For being resistant to prolonged droughts and high temperatures, the sisal has adapted well to the semi-arid tropical climate of northeastern Brazil. In this region, the climate is warm and there is a great light intensity, which favors the development of the plant.

 

For this reason, the Brazilian Northeast is the only region producing sisal in the whole country, since it presents the favorable conditions for the cultivation of sisal.

It is from the exploitation of the sisal leaf that originates the bulk of the hard fibers produced in the world and Brazil presents itself as the world’s largest producer of this fiber, exceeding 80,000 tons per year.
